Tuesday at the BIO convention, I attended a session titled 'Spreading the Word: New Technologies Mean Everyone is a Journalist,' which covered how new media such as blogs and twitter are being used and are shaping communication in the biotechnology industry.

BIOtech Now readers planning to attend the BIO International Convention in Atlanta (May 18-21) or follow the event online may want to know that the "official" social media tag for the convention is bio09 (or #bio09 for Twitter).

If you are a blogger, podcaster, video-blogger, photographer, reporter or other producer of online content, BIO will be monitoring those tags and looking for content to include in official convention coverage on convention.bio.org and other BIO online properties.

Biotechnology Networking Gets a Facelift in San Diego

Yes, it's a cliché, we are all very looks conscious in Southern California...well, not the scientists as much. What we do care about, however, is communicating with our local peers, allowing the science, people, and the biotechnology industry to flourish. Recently, two San Diego-based marketing professionals, Mary Canady and Todd Backus, formed a group called the San Diego Biotechnology Network (SDBN), which utilizes both online and face to face networking to connect biotech professionals.
